March 31, 2011 – What in the World is Grain Edit?

Richard Perez Things I Like

While rummaging around Google Image Search, I found this awesome typography poster. I was attracted to the unique color scheme and creative illustrative creatures. Curious about the artist and with the hopes of finding more of his artwork to view, I followed the link attached to the image. I was brought to Grain Edit. While I did find the name of the artist, Richard Perez, unfortunately his site, SkinnyShips, is down for maintenance, though I have bookmarked it for future reference. You can view some of his work and read about him through Grain Edit’s article.

While this poster is undoubtedly cool, the real prize in this case is the Grain Edit site. Focusing on classic design elements from the 50s – 70s, Grain Edit features contemporary designers that draw inspiration from that time period. Not only do they post articles and artwork almost everyday, and sometimes more than once a day, they also have artist interviews, designers’ libraries as well as examples of rare design annuals, type specimens, Ephemera, posters and vintage kids books. But perhaps the most exciting feature for some, the ever coveted JOB BOARD! All around Grain Edit seems to be a great resource for art, inspiration, information and other blog feeds by great artists.
